Öblarner Festspiele

"The Wedding ", written by a local writer, Paula Grogger is shown from 7th to 11th August 2018, on Saturdays and Sundays. Every few years the Enns Valley market hamlet Öblarn-Niederöblarn is transformed into those "boards”, which represent the world as it is well known here. Over 300 amateur actors participate in the play, "The Wedding " by Paula Grogger and makes it thereby the largest amateur theatre in the alpine region. In the center of the action we see the Archduke Johann, who came to Öblarn as a guest in 1821 to be a bride’s male attendant of the conservator of Gstatt and who used the wedding as a chance to meet with his beloved Anna Plochl. A lively commotion at the picturesque market place, many chatters about the secret love and the worries and needs of the local people almost fading into oblivion as a custom, wrapping itself like a coat around the action. A culmination is achieved in the, "Homage " to the Archduke Johann as a good protector of the people from Styria. As play lead, the native to Enns Valley, Bernhard Wohlfahrter, could be won, despite his young age due to extensive experiences within the range of direction and theatre.
